  • Vitamin & Mineral Formula

After examing hundreds of blood tests over the past 20-30 years, I've seen specific patterns in people who are having certain health challenges.

And for those of us who don't metabolize sugars as well, especially as we've gotten older (yes, that includes myself), I've noticed deficiencies in about 12 key vitamins and minerals. The good news is that when combined together in specific dosages, can help make our lives much healthier because we are no longer lacking.

What's important is that you're giving your body the specific nutrients that it needs, to function at optimal levels - similar to when we were younger.

Combining them with specific herbs and plant extracts, can further improve results - naturally, without having to take harmful drugs.

  • Berberine

This rare plant alkaloid is one of the most powerful natural therapies for treating a wide range of conditions – particularly insulin resistance and diabetes. Berberine targets a very basic regulator of metabolism present in all animals and plants called, AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK).

For people with diabetes or pre-diabetes, AMPK activation:

    • Stimulates the uptake of glucose into the cells.23-26
    • Improves insulin sensitivity.23-26
    • Reduces glucose production in the liver.23-26
    • Increases glucose uptake by skeletal muscles.23-26

In a clinical trial published in Metabolism, people with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes were randomly divided into groups and assigned to take metformin (Glucophage, a prescription diabetic medication) or berberine. Improvements were noted the very first week and at the study’s conclusion, the "average blood sugar and hemoglobin A1C levels significantly decreased in both groups".27 And there are additional studies showing similar improvements.34-39

Remarkably, berberine may help fight diabetes every bit as effectively as metformin. The researchers concluded that the two had "identical effect[s] in the regulation of glucose metabolism."27

IMPORTANT NOTE: The clinical dosage used in the studies was 500-1500 mgs daily, which is the exact dosages used in Blood Sugar Optimizer™ (based on serving size)
  • Alpha Lipoic Acid (NA-R form)

Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) is a potent antioxidant and free radical scavenger that has been proven to regenerate vitamin C and vitamin E; restore levels of intracellular glutathione, an important antioxidant that declines with age; and increase excretion of toxic heavy metals such as mercury.

However, ALAs most interesting property may be its ability to counter hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) and help with diabetic Neuropathy.39-42

ALA has also been shown to increase insulin sensitivity and help reduce blood sugar and lipids, largely through improving measures of oxidative stress and inflammation.43-48

Personally, I believe one of ALA's biggest benefits for long-term health is it's about to help prevent beta cell destruction, enhancing glucose uptake, and its antioxidant effects may be particularly useful in slowing the development of diabetic complications such as diabetic neuropathy.49

IMPORTANT NOTE: There are TWO types of Alpha Lipoic. If you're taking a typical alpha lipoic acid supplement, you're likely only getting half the benefit of natural lipoic acid. The reason for this is that most alpha lipoic acid products on the market have both forms: the S form, and the R form. R-lipoic acid is much more potent (2-3 times or more) than commonly sold alpha lipoic acid, which contains both the R and S forms. The S form is chemically the mirror image of the R form and cannot be used by the body, hence it is useless. Additionally, the typical ALA tends to cause acid reflux and heart burn in many users.

Blood Sugar Optimizer™ uses the correct and more potent "R" Alpha Lipoic Acid, which also is safer for digestion. Additionally, Blood Sugar Optimizer™ contains BioEnhanced Na-R-ALA, the sodium salt of R-Lipoic acid (RLA). Unlike pure RLA, BioEnhanced Na-R-ALA is a stabilized form of R-ALA that won't degrade at high temperatures, is more bioavailable than regular RLA and has no solvent residues.

Yes, it costs 6x the price of the typical ALA supplements on the market, but it's at least double the potency, natural and safer on digestion.
  • Cinnamon Extract: CinSulin® + Cinnulin PF®

Out of 50 natural ingredients tested, this popular spice was far and away the best for promoting healthy glucose metabolism. It can also help support healthy cholesterol levels.28

It works because of Hydroxychalcone, the active ingredient in cinnamon, which boosts the effect of insulin by increasing its sensitivity to glucose and facilitating delivery into the cells where it can be stored and synthesized. Additionally, certain compounds in cinnamon inhibit an enzyme that inactivates insulin receptors, further improving cell's ability to utilize circulating glucose.

Here are 5 ways it can help 28, 50-53:

    1. Cinnamon can increase your glucose metabolism about 20-fold, which significantly improves blood sugar regulation.
    2. Cinnamon has been found to have "insulin-like effects" due to a bioactive compound, qualifying it as a candidate for an insulin substitute.
    3. Cinnamon slows the emptying of your stomach to reduce sharp rises in blood sugar following meals, and improves the effectiveness, or sensitivity, of insulin.
    4. Cinnamon actually enhances your antioxidant defenses. A study published in 2009 stated, "Polyphenols from cinnamon could be of special interest in people who are overweight with impaired fasting glucose since they might act as both insulin sensitizers and antioxidants."
    5. A bioflavonoid found in cinnamon called proanthocyanidin, may alter the insulin-signaling activity in your fat cells and thus, help reduce belly fat.

Unfortunately, the problem with Cinnamon is that in order for it to work, you need a very high dosage of the powder - at least 2500-5000 mgs, and preferably 10,000 mgs daily.

To remedy this problem, we've used two, clinically researched extract forms: Cinnulin PF®54 and CinSulin®55-57. And we're using the optimal, clinically researched dose of 500 mgs of each (2 servings daily), yielding over 10,000 mgs of cinnamon powder. It's potent, clinically researched and it works!54-57

IMPORTANT NOTE: If taking raw cinnamon powder (which is found in most supplements), you'll need at least 1-2 teaspoons a day or 2000-4000 mgs, preferably TWICE that dose. Blood Sugar Optimizer™ contains the much more potent and effective extract versions (Cinnulin PF® and CinSulin®), so far less is needed with improved results.
  • Bitter Melon (Nepatica)

Bitter melon is a vegetable cultivated and eaten in many parts of the world, including India, Asia, Africa and South America. Bitter melon contains several chemical ingredients, including the glycosides momordin and charantin. Polypeptide P, charantin and vicine are the specific components thought to have blood glucose-lowering effects.

Studies suggest that Bitter Melon may play a role in controlling the production of insulin by the body, thus promoting healthy blood sugar control. Some of the documented studies show Bitter Melon to enhance cells’ uptake of glucose, to promote insulin release, and to make the effect of insulin more potent.58-61 Some even document Bitter Melon’s effect on total cholesterol reduction.

  • Gymnema Sylvestre Extract (75% Bymnemic Acids)

Nicknamed the "sugar destroyer", Gymnema sylvestre has been used safely by people in India for 5,000 years. In a clinical study with type 2 diabetics, participants taking Gymnema Sylvestre experienced significant reductions in blood sugar, hemoglobin A1c and glycosolated plasma protein levels. 31, 62-63

Gymnema sylvestre also promotes digestive health and reduce lipids (fats and triglycerides). It has anti-inflammatory properties as well. As an added bonus, it's used to reduce the absorption of glucose into the body, and also helps suppress sugar cravings,31, 62-63 both of which are desirable for those wishing to lose weight and to reduce the level of sugar in their blood.30

IMPORTANT NOTE: Most clinical studies showing positive results were done so with the extract version, at 75% Bymnemic Acids, at 400 mgs daily - which is the correct form and dosage found in Blood Sugar Optimizer™
  • Fenugreek Seed (4:1 Extract; 50% Saponins)

Fenugreek is effective for lowering postprandial (after meals) blood sugar. Fenugreek seeds contain a peculiar amino acid not found in any mammal tissues, 4-hydroxyisoleucine, which is believed to boost insulin production by stimulation of the beta cells of the pancreas, which secretes insulin. Furthermore, chemical agents within fenugreek increase the activity of enzymes that lower blood glucose concentration both by increasing glucose breakdown and by directing more glucose into glycogen reserves.64-66

IMPORTANT NOTE: If taking the "powdered" or "seed" form, then you will need to take a minimum of 2500 mgs (up to 10 grams) daily to see glucose benefits - which is a LOT. Thus, always take the extract form only, at a 4:1 ratio - which is highly concentrated. Additionally, what matters is the Saponins concentrations, which is the active ingredient. Ours is the highest available at 50% extract.
  • Panax Ginseng (8% ginsenosides)

A 2014 review and meta-analysis of 16 research studies looked at those that used randomized, controlled groups for 30 days or more and people who had diabetes and those who didn't. They found that ginseng (Panax ginseng) significantly reduced fasting blood glucose compared to the control group.32 They concluded that ginseng "significantly improved fasting blood glucose in people with and without diabetes."

One study concluded that, "ginseng and ginsenosides are beneficial for diabetes therapy".67. Another stated that, "Ginseng modestly yet significantly improved fasting blood glucose in people with and without diabetes". 68,69.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Make sure to always use the exact form, not the inactive and dead "root". That's why we use 8% ginsenosides extract.
  • Trans-Resveratrol (90% from Polygonum cupsidatum)

Improvements in Hemoglobin A1C, a marker of the long-term presence of excess glucose in the blood, were observed following three months of supplementation with resveratrol: “The results of the present study support our hypothesis that resveratrol supplementation improves glycemic control and the associated risk factors in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus..." The study also suggests that, "resveratrol could be used as an effective adjuvant therapy with a conventional hypoglycemic regimen to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus.” 33

In one 4-week study at only 10 mgs daily, resveratrol "significantly decreased insulin resistance".70 In a study with subjects aged 65+, showed "a significant suppression of the peak blood glucose level and overall exposure to glucose in serum after meal ingestion".71

IMPORTANT NOTE: Most Resveratrol is at 20%-50%, so you need a much higher dosage. We use the maximum 90% exact, thus less is needed for better effects.
  • Chromium (as Chromium Picolinate & TRAACS® Chromium Nicotinate Glycinate Chelate)

More than 90% of U.S. adults have a deficiency in chromium because it is not readily absorbed from foods, and the human body even has difficulty in absorbing chromium from most nutritional supplements.

Because of this, there are dozens and hundreds of clinical studies about Chromium as it relates to improvements in blood glucose, insulin and HbaA1c levels... An increase in insulin sensitivity, appetite reduction, a decrease in fat mass and more.70-78 Simply stated, chromium helps enhance the effectiveness of insulin, a hormone vital for the processing of glucose.

There are two forms of chromium - Picolinate and Polynicotinate, each having their own benefits. Picolinate version has been shown to improve longevity, HDL/LDL ratios, increase muscle mass and decrease body fat. The Nicotinate (niacin-bound) version has improved bioavailability and absorption. BOTH help improve blood sugar levels.

Because of this, Blood Sugar Optimizer™ contains BOTH forms for better proven performance and absorption.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Chromium is an amazing ingredient and most people are deficient in it. Make sure you use BOTH versions for maximum performance. Additionally, you should always take Chromium along with Biotin for correct balance to prevent deficiencies. Blood Sugar Optimizer™ has this correct 1:1 ratio.
  • Biotin

Biotin, vitamin B-7, is a member of the water-soluble family of B complex vitamins. Biotin functions in fatty acid metabolism and the production of glucose. Biotin levels influence blood sugar levels and tend to be lower in people with type 2 diabetes. A study published in the January 2011 issue of the journal "Molecular Genetics and Metabolism" found that biotin deficiency impairs glucose and cholesterol regulation.

A study published in the journal "Diabetes Technology and Therapeutics" found that a combination of biotin and chromium for four weeks significantly improved results of glucose tolerance tests. The researchers also noted reductions in levels of triglycerides and fructose -- a sugar found in fruit that has been implicated in insulin resistance and elevated cholesterol.

IMPORTANT NOTE: It's important to always take both Biotin and Chromium TOGETHER. The proper ratio is 1:1, which is found in Blood Sugar Optimizer™
